The Rocher des gardes

The course of the Rouvre becomes a deep meander between Saint-Jean and the Rocher des Gardes as it winds downstream of the Roche d’Oëtre.

The Meander of the Rouvre

The river here has encountered an ancient and resilient rock known as hornfels which is over 500 million years old. While not as well-known or frequented as the Roche d’Oëtre, the Rocher des Gardes is still a remarkable lookout point. It has to be said that it is not directly accessible. Although it requires some effort on foot (and it’s uphill!), we promise the view will not disappoint you.

Follow the signs for the sentier des méandres to reach the viewpoint: from Rouvrou, au Pont (Ménil-Hubert-sur-Orne): 3 km, from la Roche d’Oëtre (St-Philbert): 6.4 km.
